CYPRUS – ISRAEL 20-48 (12-27)
Israel’s game against Cyprus was like a walk in the park, despite the Cypriots’ brave attempt to stay close on the scoreline. The Israelis were far better technically and more powerful physically and their easy 48-20 win came to no one’s surprise.
Andreas Georgiadis (Captain – Cyprus): “This is the first ever tournament the national youth team of Cyprus is taking part. Congrats to Israel for their performance. They were far better than us.”
Yannis Fessias (Goalkeeper – Cyprus): “I am sure we can play better than that. We put extra effort in the second half, but Israel was a very strong team. Now we have to recover and try to win our next game. This tournament is a great experience for us.”
Boutenko Oded (Coach – Israel): “This is a sporting tournament, but I believe that is of equal importance the friendship that is being built between players coming from different countries and cultures. I am a supporter of the whole concept of the tournament. As far my team is concerned I am trying to persuade them to play as fast and attacking as possible.”
